FAQ

Cook and Cranny provides a brilliant way to sharpen your knives. It's user-friendly and delivers rapid results. Simply attach any metal knife to the magnetic sharpener and glide it along the blade using the Cook and Cranny roller mechanism.

Our sharpener is compatible with most knives, including kitchen knives, cleavers, many hunting knives with a smooth edge, and foldable knives with a smooth edge. However, bread knives and scissors aren't recommended for sharpening with our device.

Damascus steel knives are renowned for their hardness. Thanks to Cook and Cranny's high-efficiency diamond wheel, which is tougher than Damascus steel, even these special knives can be effortlessly sharpened. The preset angles of 15 or 20 degrees ensure that only the cutting edge is sharpened without damaging the valuable blade.

Ceramic isn't magnetic, so ceramic-bladed knives can't be attached to the magnetic holder. Therefore, our sharpener isn't designed for ceramic knives.

Absolutely. Since many Japanese knives are sharpened on one side, you might want to resharpen only that side. The Cook and Cranny magnetic holder allows both 15-degree and 20-degree sharpening angles, enabling flexibility in sharpening.

For taller knives, like a large Chinese chef's knife, simply place a cutting board underneath the Cook and Cranny roller to raise it to the desired height.

Initially, you'll need to set a consistent 15 or 20-degree angle, which might take between 2 and 6 minutes. For blades of higher hardness like Damascus, it might take up to 10 minutes. Subsequent sharpenings, however, will only require a few strokes since the initial grinding angle will have been set.

Diamonds are extremely hard and durable. If used correctly, the Cook and Cranny diamond wheel is designed to last without the need for replacement.

The right angle depends on the knife type and purpose. Refer to the provided guidelines regarding 10-degree, 12-degree, 17-degree, and 25-degree angles for specifics on their recommended usage.

Our roller sharpener isn't designed for serrated blades. Sharpening such knives can damage both the knife and the diamond sharpening disc.

The 20-degree angle provides more sturdiness compared to the precise 15-degree angle. Understanding the differences in metal hardness between Western and Japanese knives can help you determine which angle to use for optimal sharpening.

Cook and Cranny utilizes industrial diamonds, ideal for sharpening any knife. The coarse diamond wheel restores sharpness, while the stainless steel honing wheel perfects the edge. A few forward and backward strokes are enough to achieve the perfect finish.
